Paul Simon- "The Obvious Child"

Paul Simon- "The Obvious Child"

From a BHS alumnus, I give you probably one of the greatest songs of Paul Simon's solo career. From his 1990 album "Rhythm of the Saints," Simon opens this album with a stringent, almost martial rhythm that is impossible to turn off. It is an excellent opener for the album, as the rest of the record is more atmospheric in quality. "The Obvious Child" seems to belong on Simon's previous 1986 album, "Graceland."
Simon assembles forces of unprecedented diversity from all over the Brazilian and Afro-Cuban music scene. This song however, seems more traditional in Simon's career with Al Garfunkel. Either way, it's awesome!

Gone With the Wind Suite-Max Steiner

Here's a tribute to one of my favorite movies! Gone With the Wind was one of the first movies to be made in color. A lot of people don't appreciate it because it is four hours long in two acts with an overture and everything, but that just shows how lazy and impatient we are today. The amazing acting, music, costumes, and special effects stir up so much emotion in the audience and never fail to amaze me. -JA

Demons - Imagine Dragons

One of the more popular songs from Imagine Dragons. They're an indie rock band and most of their stuff is good. This is one of my favorite songs from their album.

Bachannale by Camille Saint-Saens

This piece is from Samson and Delilah and is really, really fun to play (Even for violas).

One Day More from Les Miserables

This is the last song from the first act and serves as a cliffhanger for what is to come in the next act. The powerful transition from just soloists singing to the entire company brings tears to the audience's eyes. I can't wait to see this movie when it comes to theaters on Christmas! -JA
